During the offensive, the Armed Forces of Ukraineknocked out Russian troops from their positions near Avdiyivka, Donetsk Region. This was reported at the Military Media Centre by Pavlo Kovalchuk, the spokesman for the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

"During the conduct of offensive assault operations by the Defence Forces, the enemy was forced to pull back from their positions in the area south of Avdiyivka," said the spokesman of the General Staff.

According to him, in the direction of Bakhmut, the Ukrainian military continues to conduct offensive operations south of the city of Bakhmut.

At the same time, the enemy "made unsuccessful attempts to restore the lost position north and west of Klishchiyivka, as well as northwest of Kurdyumivka."

The Armed Forces continue to hold back the advance of Russian troops in the Kupyansk and Lyman areas.

Earlier, Deputy Minister of Defence Hanna Malyar said that fierce battles are taking place every day near Avdiyivka. Russians are consistently trying to surround Avdiyivka, but do not enter there, as they are afraid of getting bogged down in city battles with the Defence Forces fighters.

The Russian army tries to bypass the city every day, but has very serious losses. The 110th mechanized brigade named after Corporal General Mark Bezruchka, led by Corporal Mykola Chumak, is fighting there.
