The Prosecutor General's Office has confirmed data on 10,749 dead civilians and 15,599 wounded since the beginning of the full-scale war with the Russian Federation.
This was reported by the Yuriy Belousov, head of the Department for Combating Crimes in the Context of Armed Conflict of the Prosecutor General's Office Yuriy Belousov, reports Interfax-Ukraine.
"We have confirmation of 10,749 dead civilians and 15,599 wounded. Of this number, 499 were killed and 1,900 children were injured. We understand that these numbers are just the tip of the iceberg. When we de-occupy our territories, the numbers will increase many times, and maybe tens of times. I think that there will be tens of thousands dead only in Mariupol," he said.
According to him, there will always be a certain number of missing ones.
"The Russians could have reburied them, taken them away, but we will not find the bodies. Unfortunately, such cases can happen," Belousov states.
He informed that thanks to Ukrainian partners, the identification system has improved significantly.
"The number of laboratories, the possibility of DNA analysis is now incomparable to what we had before. Therefore, I hope that we will be able to identify them as much as possible by at least those bodies that we find. But there will be those who will have to be found. Because someone may have been killed and taken to another country, buried in Russia or Belarus," said a representative of the Prosecutor General's Office.
The bodies of two civilians who were shot by the Russian military were found in the liberated territory of the Mykolaiv Region.
