Power unit No 4 at the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant, which is in a state of hot shutdown, continues to operate at 280 degrees Celsius, but is not being repaired. This is why it poses a threat, Ukraine's Energoatom CEO Petro Kotin has said at a press conference, UNIAN reports.
According to him, there are rules and regulations in the world on how to check and repair equipment, but the occupying authorities ignore them.
"Power unit No 4 is in hot shutdown. Its equipment is not being repaired but continues to operate. And the unit operates at 280 degrees Celsius. From a technical point of view, the equipment they keep under pressure for a long period of time is dangerous," he said.
On the afternoon of 3 August, experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) finally gained access to the roofs of units Nos 3 and 4.
Last month, the IAEA team saw several anti-personnel mines in the restricted area, which cannot be accessed by the plant's maintenance staff.
Earlier, the Russian occupying authorities cooled down power unit No 5 at ZNPP after putting unit No 4 in hot shutdown.
