Water levels in the Kyiv and Kaniv reservoirs are at their lowest point, Ukrhydroenergo deputy director-general Bohdan Sukhetskyy has said on the air of the news telethon.

"We are currently experiencing a rather unusual mode of operation, as we usually fill up our reservoir in the summer, while in the autumn and winter, in late September-October and early November, we discharge the excess water that we have accumulated. Now the situation has changed significantly. We have changed the repair schedules for both NPPs and TPPs, so we are now producing quite a lot of energy for this period, and unfortunately, we do not have as many reserves as we had last year. The Kyiv reservoir is now at its lowest point. The Kaniv reservoir is also at its lowest point, and the Kremenchuk reservoir is quite well filled," Sukhetskyy said.

He noted that reservoir levels are set by the interagency commission. It calculates the applicable limits: how much water should pas through the dams, how much water should remain in the reservoirs.

At the end of August 2022, Ukrhydroenergo had completely full reservoirs.

"That's why we had a huge reserve so that we could work for a month and a half to support the power system to the maximum," Sukhetskyy added.
