Since 2014, there have been about one million combat veterans in Ukraine, but changes in veterans' policy are not only about solving current and bureaucratic problems, but also about the attitude of society towards them.
This was discussed at the VI International Veterans Forum "Ukraine. Defenders. The Future" was emphasised by the Defence Minister of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov, Ukrinform reports.
"We have already had over a million combatants for 9,5 years of this war. We all know exactly their current problems and tasks. These are obtaining the status of combat participant, military service, compensation for injuries, etc. We are working on all these issues, and there will be changes. And now we are rapidly digitising the processes, there will be less paperwork, queues, etc.," Reznikov said.
He emphasised that the parliament, government, and public sector will have to do a lot to ensure fairness in mobilisation, access to medical care, and the realistic approach to support programs and guarantees.
At the Veterans Forum, the President of Ukraine said that veterans should be appropriately integrated into social life after the war: "No lost generations, no lost opportunities. And, of course, no wasted time, the time of life."
