An explosion occurred near the village of Olenivka on Cape Tarkhankut in occupied Crimea at around 10 a.m. on 23 August, destroying a Russian long- and medium-range S-400 Triumph air defence system, the Ukrainian Defence Ministry's Main Intelligence Directorate has said.

The explosion completely destroyed the system, missiles and personnel.

Given the limited number of such systems in Russia's arsenal, this is a painful blow to the its air defence system, which will have a serious impact on further developments in occupied Crimea.

Meanwhile, an advisor to the mayor of Mariupol, Petro Andryushchenko, said that a Russian Bastion mobile coastal defence missile system and radars in Crimea were hit.

"What a day. The Bastion coastal anti-ship missile system has been hit in Crimea. It is one of the carriers of Oniks missiles, which Russians use to strike Ukraine. Radar stations were also damaged. There were seven explosions in total," he said on Telegram on 23 August.
