US Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg has arrived in Ukraine on a visit, US Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink has said.
"I am pleased to welcome Pete Buttigieg to Ukraine. Our message today is clear: The United States stands with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people," she said on X.
The diplomat also posted a joint photo with the head of the US Department of Transportation at the Kyiv railway station.
Buttigieg is the 19th US Secretary of Transportation. In 2020, he planned to run for the Democratic presidential nomination, but later withdrew his candidacy.
In July 2021, Buttigieg represented the United States at the Crimea Platform.
Buttigieg is the first LGBT minister to be confirmed by the US Senate.
