Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valeriy Zaluzhnyy said that the 36-month service limit is a compromise with the government, provided there is no escalation at the front and that there are people to replace the people on the frontline. He said this at a press conference, ArmyInform reports.
The Commander-in-Chief expressed hope that there would be enough time to prepare reserves by 2025.
"My position is simple. I never get tired of reminding you that there is a war going on, which develops according to its own laws, and which depends on the actions of our enemy. I clearly understand that our soldiers are doing their job in extremely difficult conditions. And of course I would like the people who are going to serve to understand how long they will be fighting," he said.
"We agreed to 36 months under two conditions: if there is no escalation at the front and if there is someone to replace them. And now the government, which has undertaken to implement the law, clearly understands what our country's capabilities are. And I hope we will cope with this task," Zaluzhnyy added.
He added that 36 months will be in 2025, and the command will have enough time to prepare replacements for soldiers who have been serving since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.
"But the government should also understand that this process will have to start next year," Zaluzhnyy said.
