Ukrainian State Customs Service reported that in 2023, the country's trade turnover was $99.4 billion. In 2023, Ukraine imported $63.5 billion worth of goods and exported $36 billion worth of goods.
At the same time, taxed imports amounted to $52.6 billion, which is 83% of the total volume of imported goods.
The tax burden per 1 kg of taxable imports in January-December 2023 was USD 0.49/kg, up 38% compared to 2022.
Countries from which Ukraine imported the most goods: China - $10.4bn, Poland - $6.6bn, and Germany - $4.9bn.
Ukraine exported the most to Poland - by $4.7 billion, Romania - by $3.7 billion, and China - by $2.4 billion.
The following categories of goods accounted for 65% of the total volume of goods imported in January-December 2023:
- machinery, equipment and transport - $19.8 billion. During the customs clearance of these goods, UAH 141.7 billion was paid to the budget, which is 31% of customs revenues;
- chemical products - $11 billion. The customs clearance of these goods paid UAH 74.8 billion to the budget, which is 16% of customs revenues;
- fuel and energy products - $10.3 billion. During the customs clearance of these goods, UAH 103.4 billion was paid to the budget, accounting for 23% of customs revenues.
The top three most exported goods from Ukraine are:
- food products - $21.8 billion
- metals and metal products - $3.9 billion
- machinery, equipment and transport - $2.9 billion
UAH 559.2 million was paid to the budget during customs clearance of exports of goods subject to export duties.
