Russia continues to "advertise and attempt to recruit" foreign nationals to join the Russian armed forces for the war in Ukraine, British intelligence reports.

According to the British Ministry of Defence, the latest leaflet, written in English, offers foreigners to join a special unit of the Russian army, and also specifies a monthly salary of $2,200, a $2,000 allowance, a Russian passport, free medical care and training.

"In mid-2023, online recruitment ads were circulated specifically targeting citizens of neighbouring countries such as Armenia and Kazakhstan, with monthly salary offers of $1973 and benefits of $5140," the intelligence report said.

It is likely that many of those recruited by the Kremlin are not professional soldiers, but simply labour migrants who were forced to fight by luring them with salaries.

In addition, in 2023, Russia appealed to migrants from Central Asia. In addition, according to intelligence, "there have been recent reports that migrants from India and Nepal have been recruited and sent to fight in Ukraine."
