A Russian strike on Chernihiv on 17 April killed 18 people and wounded 78 others. Rescue and search operations have been completed, the head of the Chernihiv Regional Military Administration Chaus said at 9:03 am.
Thirty-seven of the wounded remain in hospital. Chaus assured that the hospitals have everything they need.
"All the necessary assistance is being provided at local healthcare facilities, and the necessary medicines have been provided," he said.
Strike on Chernihiv on 17 April
- At around 9 a.m. on Wednesday, the Russian army fired three missiles at Chernihiv. According to the head of the RMA, Vyacheslav Chaus, the Russian army used an Iskander.
- Civilian and social infrastructure, including a hospital and Chernihiv Polytechnic, were damaged.
- The President and the Foreign Ministry stressed that the strike would not have had such consequences if the country had sufficient air defences. The same point of view was expressed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, an ally country.
- After the attack, residents of Chernihiv lined up to donate blood for the wounded.
- Overnight, the death toll rose from 17 to 18. As of 7 a.m., rescuers had managed to dismantle 70% of the destroyed part of the building.
