President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg visited the National Defence University in Kyiv the day before, the Presidential Office reports

They met with students of the institution who are taking professional military training courses in accordance with NATO standards. The NATO Secretary General called this one of the examples of how the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation is increasingly integrating Ukraine into its structure and educational programmes.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the prospects of strengthening Ukraine's air defence. The Head of State noted that thanks to the assistance of our partners, our military has mastered modern Western air defence systems and that no other country in the Alliance has such a large number of different types.

"Today, our experts can say exactly what the ideal system for us is, how much we lack. Our air defence is not yet universal, it is changing and being replenished on a daily basis. Not only with air defence systems, but also with electronic warfare, anti-drone systems, etc." he said.

Zelenskyy stressed that Ukrainian defenders of the sky today face a complex of different threats, and the battle of technologies is ongoing.

"I am sure that we will have modern aircraft that will also be one of the components of this system," he added.

For his part, Jens Stoltenberg noted that as soon as Ukraine becomes a member of the Alliance, it will be fully integrated into the NATO air defence system.

"At the same time, we need to make you as interoperable as possible. And integrate them as much as we can," he said.

The Head of State stressed that it is very important for Ukraine to receive an invitation to join the North Atlantic Alliance and spoke separately about the work of the NATO-Ukraine Council.

"Without any bureaucratic pauses, when Ukraine needs it, we can convene it. This is one of the tools. Today we discussed several new instruments with the Secretary General," he summed up.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Jens Stoltenberg also visited an exhibition of trophy and destroyed Russian equipment on the university's campus.
