As a result of the Russian attack on 8 May, there are power cuts in nine Regions of Ukraine. From 18:00 to 23:00, blackouts are possible across the country.
Today's attack is the fifth since 22 March, when the Russian army conducted the most massive shelling of the season. Heat and hydroelectric power plants were damaged, Ukrenergo said.
"Russian Shahed drones also damaged the equipment of one of Ukrenergo's facilities in the central region. Consumers in the region are currently being supplied by backup schemes. Currently, the State Emergency Service is working at the damaged facilities and emergency repair works are underway," the statement said.
Tonight, from 18:00 to 23:00, there may be power cuts for household and industrial consumers across Ukraine. The restrictions will be evenly distributed across all regions. Local regional power companies will publish outage schedules.
"The reason is a shortage of electricity in the power system. The blackout was caused by new damage to equipment at Ukrainian power plants caused by Russian strikes. The situation is expected to be particularly difficult today from 18:00 to 23:00. Ukrenergo's dispatch centre is taking all available measures to overcome the shortage, including imports and emergency electricity from the power systems of European countries," Ukrenergo added.
Ukrenergo urged for economical electricity consumption. Electricity is imported in the evening from Romania, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary and Moldova. The total amount of damage is 7,623 MWh, with a maximum capacity of up to 1,198 MW in some hours.
As of this morning, 31 settlements in Kirovohrad, Sumy, and Chernihiv Regions are without power supply due to the bad weather. For other reasons, 411 settlements are without electricity. Due to the hostilities, there were new blackouts in Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kyiv, Lviv, Mykolayiv, Poltava, Kharkiv, and Sumy Regions.
