Ukraine may, in accordance with international law, attack Russia in defence of its territory and use the weapons of its partners to do so.

This was stated by Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide, NRK reports. He said that this refers to attacks on military targets.

‘We fundamentally believe that Ukraine can also use weapons received from Western countries against military targets related to the war. Otherwise, we are imposing a demarcation on Ukraine, which will make victory more difficult,’ Eide said.

This statement came as NATO ministers were meeting in the Czech Republic.

The Norwegian minister also said that every state that provides assistance to Ukraine should set clear conditions for its use.

‘In war, this is absolutely normal, and we cannot force Ukraine to fight with one hand behind its back,’ Eide said, adding that our country should be able to wage war ‘in the way that is most effective for it.’

‘If they are attacked by Russian troops who are on the territory of Russia, because they have long-range weapons, they should be able to attack them in return,’ the Norwegian Foreign Minister is convinced.

Eidele added that ‘when it comes to specific conditions and conditions for the provision of specific weapons systems, we, like other countries, will be careful and will not speak about it out loud’.
