Ukraine may set up military commandant's offices in the Kursk Region, as it will be needed to provide humanitarian aid to local residents.
This was stated by the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets during a telethon, Radio Svoboda reports.
He recalled that at a meeting on 14 August with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the issue of military commandant's offices was discussed.
"(This was discussed - ed.) In order to ensure coordination among the military units that are there, including for the voluntary position of the Armed Forces in the form of providing humanitarian assistance to the local population, it will be necessary to establish military commandant's offices," Lubinets said.
He said that "whether or not military commandant's offices will appear is up to the military command of Ukraine. This issue is being discussed solely on the basis of international law."
A military commandant's office is a body that operates in a particular region or area and is responsible for military matters. Its scope of activities includes interaction with local authorities, organising security at important facilities, and providing the military with all necessary supplies.
