Ukrainian poetry was featured at one of the world’s most prestigious literary events, the Jaipur Literature Festival 2026. As part of the programme, poet Yuliya Musakovska took part in a poetry session and panel discussion, presenting contemporary Ukrainian literature to an international audience. The Ukrainian Institute reported this on its Facebook page.
During one of the poetry events, Musakovska read her texts alongside an author from Bhutan and a poet from India. The session moderator described her poems as “highly political, but read from the heart”. Texts from the poetry collection God of Freedom were presented.
During the meeting with the poet, a proposal was made to translate her work into Marathi. Work is already underway on a selection in Bengali, and translations into Hindi are also planned.
A separate festival event was a panel discussion with Yuliya Musakovska and Austrian writer Andreas Unterweger, moderated by Asad Lalji, producer and curator of the Royal Opera House in Mumbai. The conversation focused on poetry as a means of understanding human relationships, solidarity and unity, the transformation of the language of Ukrainian poetry after 2022, the fragility of the world, the search for strength and light, and the motivation to translate authors who joined the Ukrainian Defence Forces. One of the international participants described the discussion as the best he had ever heard on the subject.
According to Yuliya Musakovska, the opportunity to represent Ukraine and speak about Ukrainian reality at one of the world’s largest literary festivals is particularly important, as Ukrainian voices are still rarely heard at such major global cultural events.
