Ukrainian director Maryna Er Gorbach wins Legacy Award at Los Angeles film festival

Maryna Er Gorbach has been awarded the SEEfest Legacy Award 2026 “for achievement” at the South East European Film Festival. The award was presented on 29 April during the opening ceremony of the festival in Los Angeles, according to organisers on the festival’s official Facebook page.

Organisers said her work has become “a voice of a generation and a country”. The SEEfest festival runs from 29 April to 6 May and showcases feature, documentary and short films from South-Eastern Europe and the Caucasus.

This year’s programme includes Ukrainian films Militantropos by Yelyzaveta Smith, Alina Horlova and Semen Mozgovyy, and My Dear Théo by Alisa Kovalenko. Earlier, actress Oksana Cherkashyna also received an award from the festival.

Maryna Er Gorbach is a member of the European Film Academy. Her film Klondike won the Best Director Award at the Sundance Film Festival, received multiple international accolades, and was also longlisted for the 2023 Oscars.
