The Turin Book Fair is a large-scale event that combines professional events for publishers with a festival for the general public. Last year, the event attracted more than 230,000 visitors. This year, with the support of the Ukrainian Institute, the programme includes two events dedicated to Ukrainian literature.
On 16 May, the fair will host a presentation of the Italian translations of the poetry collections Canzoni Alla Fine by Iryna Shuvalova and L’Ultima Cena De Mio Corpo by Alex Averbukh. The books will be presented by translators Yaryna Hrusha and Alessandro Aquilli, together with publisher Roberto Chikala. The event will be moderated by journalist and cultural manager Francesco Chiamulera.
Iryna Shuvalova’s collection Canzoni Alla Fine, translated by Yaryna Hrusha and Alessandro Aquilli, has been shortlisted for the 2025 Drahomán Prize, the winners of which will be announced at the end of May during the Book Arsenal festival.
On 17 May, Yaryna Hrusha will present her debut novel, L’Album Blu. The novel is set in the aftermath of the Chornobyl nuclear disaster, as expectant parents travel as far away as possible from the site of the tragedy in order to give birth to their child. The main character is their daughter, whose childhood and youth unfold during the collapse of the Soviet Union, and later during the Orange Revolution and the Revolution of Dignity. The presentation will be moderated by Italian journalist Paola Peduzzi.
