The crew of a Vampire drone freed two Ukrainian soldiers from Russian captivity in the Northern Slobozhanshchyna sector.
This was reported by Militarnyy, citing the 21st Separate Mechanised Brigade.
The incident took place in April this year. During a Russian assault on the positions of a neighbouring brigade, two infantrymen were taken prisoner, and the command requested assistance.
“A few kilometres from the scene was a crew operating a Vampire drone from the 21st Separate Mechanised Brigade. Without wasting any time, the soldiers prepared the drone and immediately set off on the rescue mission. By that point, the occupiers were already leading the prisoners towards their own positions. Hearing the distinctive sound of the ‘Vampire’ hovering above them, the Russians became disoriented, panicked, abandoned the prisoners and attempted to flee. The Ukrainian drone operators caught up with the occupiers and eliminated them,” the military said.
Both rescued infantrymen successfully returned to their units.
There have already been numerous cases in which Ukrainian drones have forced Russian soldiers to surrender. However, the rescue of Ukrainian soldiers using a UAV is the first such incident recorded in the Northern Slobozhanshchyna sector.
Earlier this year, a Vampire drone also rescued two soldiers from captivity near Hulyaypole.
The rescue operation was carried out by a crew under the command of a 23-year-old serviceman with the call sign Rubin.
