The feature-length fiction film project Times New Roman by Ukrainian director Philip Sotnychenko has won the top prize at the Transylvania Pitch Stop 2026 international pitching event, held in the Romanian city of Cluj-Napoca, according to Suspilne Culture.
Times New Roman received the Award for Development, which includes a €5,000 cash prize. The project was presented at the pitching event by director Philip Sotnychenko and producer Valeria Sochivets.
An international team of producers from Ukraine, Lithuania, Germany, Latvia and the Netherlands is working on the film. The Ukrainian side is represented by Halyna Kryvorchuk (VIATEL Studio), Valeria Sochivets and Sashko Chubko (Modern Ukrainian Cinema).
The film is currently in the development stage.
The film’s plot centres on Roman, a Ukrainian artist who travels across Europe re-enacting the assassinations of Ukrainian political figures — Symon Petliura, Yevhen Konovalets and Stepan Bandera — carried out by Soviet agents in the 20th century. What begins as an artistic project gradually evolves into a personal journey, prompting the protagonist to reflect on memory, responsibility and the loss of a sense of security.
