The Verkhovna Rada has passed a law providing for the establishment of the Ukrainian National Pantheon.
A total of 287 members of parliament voted in favor of Bill No. 15360.
The document stipulates that the Pantheon will become a nationwide place of remembrance to honor the most outstanding representatives of the Ukrainian nation.
It sets out the specifics for holding competitions related to the construction and outfitting of the site, appointing its administrator, the procedure for considering matters of honoring prominent Ukrainians, as well as the requirements under which such honoring cannot take place.
Earlier, the профильний комітет recommended adopting the draft law “On the Ukrainian National Pantheon” at first reading and as a whole.
After the vote, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he expects the bill to be sent to him for immediate signature.
“I am grateful to all parliamentarians who supported the bill on the Ukrainian National Pantheon. This is an important step—important not only in the context of our history and Ukrainians honoring their own heroes, but also in laying the foundations for long-term social unity in the future. This becomes possible when our state’s decisions are built on recognition of what is real—those whom people truly respect, those who have made a genuinely historic contribution to defending, developing, and strengthening Ukraine, its agency, independence, and glory. I am awaiting the bill for immediate signature,” he said.
- On June 28, the president submitted to parliament the draft law “On the Ukrainian National Pantheon”.
- This concerns the reburial in Ukraine of prominent Ukrainians who were laid to rest abroad. Diplomatic missions have identified the burial sites of 98 Ukrainians in 21 countries. They include political, military, cultural, and civic figures of the Ukrainian People’s Republic, the West Ukrainian People’s Republic, the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists and the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, the government-in-exile, and the national liberation struggles.
- On June 1, the head of the President’s Office, Kyrylo Budanov, during the “Security Architecture” forum, spoke about possible approaches to forming the list of figures who may be honored in the Pantheon.
