On 4 August, two Polish fighter jets intercepted a Russian Il-20M reconnaissance aircraft over the Baltic Sea.
This was reported by Polish Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.
The incident occurred 56 kilometres northwest of the city of Koszalin.
According to the head of Poland’s defence ministry, Russia is once again resorting to provocative actions near the borders of NATO countries. In this way, the Russian Federation is testing the vigilance and readiness of NATO’s defence systems.
- In recent days, Polish fighter jets had already intercepted a Russian Il-20 over the Baltic Sea. At the time, the Russian aircraft was flying in international airspace without an approved flight plan and with its transponder switched off.
