A civilian drone was spotted near the US missile defence base in the Polish town of Redzikowo.
According to media reports, instead of neutralising or shooting down the aircraft, the military called the 112 emergency number, European Pravda reports, citing the Onet portal.
Poland’s Ministry of National Defence confirmed the information about the drone’s flight and assured that it was civilian and posed no threat to the base. The ministry noted that the aircraft did not fly over the facility itself, but breached the no-fly zone about a kilometre away from it. Military air defence systems kept the drone under constant surveillance and also identified the location from which it was being operated.
In line with procedures, the relevant services, including the police, were informed about the incident. The Polish defence ministry stressed that the situation was fully under control and that the drone did not approach strategically important sites.
Poland’s Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said he was awaiting a full report on the case and promised to take action if specialists identify any shortcomings in the response.
