Humanitarian operations in Ukraine are facing increasingly dangerous conditions, making it harder for war-affected people to access the assistance they need.
This was stated by UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo at a UN Security Council meeting in New York, Ukrinform reports.
According to DiCarlo, from January to July in Ukraine 10 humanitarian workers were killed and almost 40 more were injured.
At least 19 humanitarian warehouses were seriously damaged or destroyed. According to the UN representative, this led to the loss of aid worth millions of dollars.
DiCarlo also reported that UN humanitarian convoys came under attack, including during the evacuation of civilians.
The UN Under-Secretary-General stressed that attacks on humanitarian facilities and workers affect not only the safety of staff themselves.
She said that as a result, the most vulnerable people may be left without the assistance they depend on.
Separately, DiCarlo noted that civilians in parts of Ukraine under Russia’s temporary occupation largely remain beyond the UN’s reach due to a lack of the necessary access and a deteriorating security situation.
