EU member states have agreed the terms for allocating €6.6bn from the European Peace Facility to support Ukraine.
This was announced by the EU’s foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas.
Under the package, €900m will be directed to the EU mission providing military assistance to Ukraine. A further €1bn will go towards financing joint purchases of new weapons and military equipment.
Kallas noted that the largest share of the funds — €4.7bn — is earmarked to reimburse EU member states for the weapons they have supplied. Some countries have already said they intend to pass their share of this reimbursement directly to Ukraine.
“This decision was a clear response to Russia’s hybrid attacks, through which Moscow is futilely trying to intimidate Europe and force it to reduce its support for Ukraine,” the EU’s top diplomat said.
