In Mykolaiv, a design engineer at one of the defence enterprises has been sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment with confiscation of property for high treason. He attempted to pass Ukroboronprom’s secret developments to the FSB.

According to the SBU’s case materials, Russian special services involved the engineer’s former colleague in recruiting him; the colleague has been living in Russia since the 2000s.
The FSB was interested in technical documents relating to the production of the latest gas-turbine engines. The agent was to photograph the classified documentation on his phone and send the files to Russian handlers via a messenger app.
In addition, the man collected data on the temporary deployment locations of the Defence Forces and the technical condition of energy facilities. To do this, he drove around the outskirts of Mykolaiv in his own car and recorded the geolocations of potential targets on his phone.
For secrecy, the agent created an anonymous email inbox and deleted his correspondence with the handler after each communication session.
SBU counter-intelligence officers documented his activities and detained the man in October 2024 at his home. During searches, law enforcement officers seized computer equipment and mobile phones containing evidence of his co-operation with the Russian special service.
The court found the man guilty under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — high treason committed under martial law. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The investigation was conducted by SBU officers in Mykolaiv Region under the procedural supervision of the Mykolaiv Specialised Prosecutor’s Office for Defence in the Southern Region.
