The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), together with other components of the Defence Forces, struck a number of important facilities on Russian territory that support the war against Ukraine.
The strike was also confirmed by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
"On the night of 26 September 2026, units of Ukraine’s Defence Forces in Azov, Rostov Region of the Russian Federation, struck the facilities of the Azov Optical-Mechanical Plant. A fire was recorded on the premises of the foundry workshop and equipment was damaged in five production buildings," the statement said.
As the Security Service of Ukraine adds, as a result of the strike facilities of optical and foundry production, the assembly section, the electroplating shop and the printed circuit board manufacturing shop were damaged.
During the attack on the facility, the Defence Forces used Ukrainian Neptune cruise missiles, as well as Ruta, Palyanytsia and Bars rocket-drones.
The Azov Optical-Mechanical Plant is one of the key optoelectronic sites of the Russian corporation Tactical Missiles Corporation.
The plant produces radar and infrared homing heads for guided missiles, thermal imaging devices and electronic systems for precision artillery.
Earlier, President Zelensky said that the Defence Forces struck an enterprise in Rostov Region that supplies components for Russian weaponry.
The enterprise is involved in producing goods for the needs of the Russian Armed Forces, the General Staff said, adding: "Strikes on such facilities are Ukraine’s exercise of its inalienable right to self-defence in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter and are aimed at reducing the military and economic potential of the Russian Federation."
In Azov, hits on railway tank wagons carrying fuel and lubricants were also recorded.
