A traitor who carried out a terror attack in the Zhytomyr Region in September 2025 has been sentenced to 13 years in prison with confiscation of property.
As reported by the Security Service of Ukraine, the investigation found that the recruited perpetrator was a drug-dependent resident of Korostyshiv.
Russians spotted the man in themed Telegram channels, where he was looking for money for another dose. In exchange for the promise of quick cash, the perpetrator agreed to prepare an explosion.
The perpetrator rented a flat in Zhytomyr, where he assembled an improvised explosive device from readily available materials and disguised it as a fire extinguisher. He later hid the explosives near a cemetery in Korostyshiv and covered them with rubbish. On a nearby tree, the man attached a smartphone with a remote-access function for the Russian special services.
Using the phone’s camera, the occupiers tracked the victim’s arrival and remotely activated the device. As a result of the explosion, a resident of Berdychiv was killed.
Law enforcement officers detained the perpetrator eight hours after the incident. Taking into account his cooperation with the investigation, the court found him guilty of committing a terror attack that resulted in a person’s death, as well as the illegal manufacture and storage of explosives.
