Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs has sent a letter to the newly elected 15th Saeima, which officially began work today, informing it that the Cabinet of Ministers has resigned.
The government will continue to carry out its duties until a new line-up is formed and approved, Delfi reports.
The resignation is a planned procedure, as the current government has a mandate of confidence only from the previous Saeima. The newly elected parliament must now grant a mandate to the new Cabinet.
Following the official announcement of the technical resignation, President Edgars Rinkēvičs will sign a decree nominating a candidate for the post of prime minister. It is expected that the president will again task the incumbent prime minister, Andris Kulbergs, with forming a new government. Rinkēvičs plans to sign the relevant document on 4 November.
A meeting between Kulbergs and Rinkēvičs is also scheduled for Wednesday.
