US President Donald Trump said American forces carried out new strikes on Iran’s air defence system on Friday.

Associated Press reports.

According to Trump, US forces destroyed an air defence system that Iran had recently built. The President described the operation as “minor” and said it lasted roughly between five and 15 minutes.

Iranian state media reported two explosions in the area of the city of Suza on Qeshm Island, near a key sea route for transporting oil.

Trump did not specify which facility was targeted. However, US officials said most Iranian air defence systems were destroyed or seriously damaged during Israeli bombardments in June 2025 and in the early stage of the current conflict. They said Iran would, over time, try to restore its air defence systems and other military infrastructure.

Earlier, on Monday, the US military also reported what it called defensive strikes. At the time, explosions were heard on the islands of Qeshm and Hengam in the Strait of Hormuz, as well as near the city of Bandar Abbas on mainland Iran.

Friday’s strikes were the first since the US midterm elections held on Tuesday. In them, Trump’s Republican Party was defeated and lost control of both chambers of Congress.

One reason for voters’ dissatisfaction was Trump’s policy on the war with Iran, as well as rising fuel prices. Since the election, the US President has alternated threats to “destroy” Iran with statements that the end of the war is close.
