Ukraine holds the 9th place in the medal ranking after the first day of competitions at the Paralympic Games underway in Rio de Janeiro.

So far, the Team Ukraine won 9 medals, including one gold, one silver and seven bronze medals.

Olympic champion was Yevhen Bohodayko (swimming 100 meters backstroke, category S7). Denis Dubrova (swimming, 100m breaststroke, category SB9) won silver.

Bronze medalists are Roman Danyluk (shot put, the F12 category - vision problems), Ruslan Katishev (long jump, category F11 - vision problems), Julia Halynska (judo, 48 kg), Yaroslav Semenenko (swimming, 100 m backstroke, the S6), Oksana Khruleva (swimming 100 m backstroke, the S6), David Khorava (judo, 66 kg), Olha Sviderska (swimming, 100m freestyle, S3).

At the previous Games in Beijing and London, Ukrainian national team was among the strongest in the world in the overall standings, having won 24 and 32 gold medals.
