Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko will not attend the inauguration of Donald Trump as US president, Interfax-Ukraine has quoted Ukraine's ambassador to the USA, Valeriy Chalyy, as saying.
"In the USA, there is no common practice for heads of state to attend such events. They are held at the level of ambassadors. This is US specifics, and it is different from our procedure," he said.
The diplomat said the Ukrainian embassy was planning to organize Poroshenko's visit to the USA as soon as possible, possibly in February 2017, as it was instructed by the Foreign Ministry and the presidential administration.
He described it as an "ambitious" but "not unfeasible" task.
