The situation in the area of the anti-terrorist operation in Donbas has worsened as militants made 65 shelling attacks at the positions of Ukrainian servicemen during the day, killing three Ukrainian fighters were wounding four, the ATO press center reported on Facebook on 26 April.
In the Donetsk sector, militants used 120-mm mortars, armored vehicle weaponry, anti-tank grenade launchers and heavy machine guns to shell Ukrainian troops in the area of Pisky. In the areas of Opytne and Luhanske they used 120-mm mortars. The defenders of Avdiyivka and Kamyanka were ponded with the mortars of 82-mm caliber, grenade launchers of various systems and heavy machine guns. Butivka coalmine was under the fire of 82-mm mortars.
The terrorists shelled the positions of Ukrainian military in the Troyitske and Zaitseve areas, and fired machine guns and ZU-23–2 anti-aircraft guns at Novhorodske. The defenders of Verkhnyotoretske were under the fire of IFV weapons. Enemy snipers activated in the areas of Avdiyivka and Novhorodske.
In the coastal sector, terrorists fired 120-mm mortars and automatic grenade launchers at the ATO positions in Novotroyitske. Ukrainian marines in the area of Vodyane and Hnutove were shelled with 82-mm mortar fire, grenade launchers of various systems and heavy machine guns, and the defenders of Maryinka were fired at from 82-mm mortars. The Ukrainian strong points in the area of Krasnohorivka were attacked with grenade launchers and heavy machine guns, and with grenade launchers and small arms - near Shyrokyne and Pavlopil.
Ukrainian marines deployed in Vodiane and Shyrokyne were shelled with the fire IFV weapons. Enemy snipers were active In the area of Novotroyitske.
On the Luhansk sector, Russia-backed terrorist troops shelled the ATO positions in the area of Novooleksandrivka with 122-mm artillery. Ukrainian reinforcement points near the settlement of Zhovte, were shelled from 82-mm mortars, as grenade launchers of various systems were fired at the positions of Ukrainian military near Krymske and Popasna. The enmy used heavy machine guns and IFV weaponsto shell Novozvanivka.
"Ukrainian commanders have ordered adequate return fire on several occasions," the ATO report said.
Russia opposes the deployment of a peacekeeping mission in Donbas.
