Over the past day, the situation in the area of the antiterrorist operation (ATO) in Donbas has not changed significantly. The militants reduced the number of attacks on the positions of Ukrainian servicemen and did not use mortars and other heavy weapons.

The ATO HQ press centre said in its morning update on Facebook that the militants reduced the number of armed provocations during the day.

Over 60 per cent of their shooting attacks focused on the Avdiyivka industrial zone and the outskirts of the village of Vodyane.

In the Donetsk sector, the militants twice used grenade launchers and heavy machine guns in the area of the Avdiyivka industrial zone after dark. They fired grenade launchers at the positions of the ATO forces stationed right outside Mayorske and Luhanske. On one occasion, Ukrainian military returned fire.

In the Mariupil (maritime) sector, the enemy occasionally used heavy machine guns to target Ukrainian strongholds outside Lebedynske and Vovyane.

Overall, the ATO HQ has registered 22 enemy attacks over the past 24 hours. No casualties have been reported.

On 26 August, the militants carried out 13 shooting attacks.

On 23 August, the leaders of the so-called Normandy Four – French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and Russian President Vladimir Putin – supported the idea of a "school ceasefire" in Donbas starting from 25 August.

The next day, the trilateral contact group for a Donbas settlement agreed on a ceasefire in Donbas. The truce is timed to the beginning of a new school year.
