Poland opposes the revision of the agreement on the association of Ukraine with the European Union and calls on Kyiv and Budapest to settle the dispute over the Ukrainian law On Education through dialogue.
The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in response to Ukrinform request said on Monday that the official Warsaw does not see the possibility of revising the EU Association Agreement with Ukraine
"The Polish side calls on partners from Hungary and Ukraine to resolve the contentious issue of the law on education through dialogue, on the basis of respect for the rights of national minorities and taking into account international and bilateral agreements," Poland's foreign ministry said a statement.
"At the same time we inform that the Polish ministries of foreign affairs and education are closely following on the impact of the relevant law on the Polish education and are in constant contact with our Ukrainian partners," the ministry said.
The Minister of Education of Ukraine, Lilia Hrynevych is scheduled to meet on October 26 with the representatives of the Polish minority in Ukraine.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Siarto called for a revision of the EU Association Agreement with Ukraine. Siarto took a sharply critical stance on Ukraine in connection with the adoption of the law On Education.
The law stipulates that only primary schoolchildren from national minorities in Ukraine will be able to learn in their native language. Starting the fifth grade all subjects should be taught in the state language – Ukrainian
