The secretary of the National Security and Defence Council, Oleksandr Turchynov, has ruled out any hike in Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine until June.

"We must understand that the Kremlin leadership may decide to take military aggression to a new dangerous level at any moment. At the same time, we can predict that until the [2018 FIFA] World Cup, in which Putin has invested billions of Russian money, they are unlikely to go into an active offensive not to ruin the event," he said.

Turchynov said that he always opposed the war.

"Only sick people want war. Adequate people do not want war," he said.

According to Turchynov, Donbas can be liberated from the Russian occupying forces using violence and/or diplomacy.

"We must be capable of and are ready to put up resistance in all sectors: from south to north," he added.
