Cyber police detain hacker who “leased out” viruses

The hacker signed online as AntonShesar and Catona.

The Kyiv cyber police have tracked down a hacker who “leased out” the viruses he developed for a fee in cryptocurrency.

The cyber police said on its website that his malware targeted sensitivities and was further used for stealing data used by various web applications. To cover in his tracks, he used Russian web resources managing his virus using a remote RDP protocol.

He was known online as AntonShesar and Catona. He developed and sold malware used for interfering in the work of servers and stealing databases stored on them.

Police learnt that the 22-year-old man from Cherkasy Region offered his malware for “lease” on hacker forums. Police searched three places in Cherkasy and Kyiv regions. They confiscated computers used for remote control of the malicious software. Accounts used for remote control, stolen accounts and emails were identified.

A pre-trial investigation is underway.
