President Petro Poroshenko has suggested that the deployment of a UN peacekeeping mission with clear objectives and tasks will become a key peace-facilitating factor in the region. Speaking during the debate at the UN General Assembly, he noted that the Ukrainian authorities are prepared to discuss the initiative.
“I urge Russia as a party to the conflict to honour its commitments under the Minsk agreements,” he said.
He also called on the General Assembly to support Ukraine in counteraction to the Russian aggression. “Only together we can force Russia, the occupying state and aggressor, to acknowledge its responsibility and stop aggressive actions. We believe that the UN should play an important role in this,” he said.
