Parliament has passed the bill (1035-2) introducing punishment for MPs' absence without leave or explanation.
The bill was backed by 265 MPs.
It says that an MP who skipped without good reason over 30% of votes at plenary sessions and over 50% of committee meetings, on which he or she sits, will no longer be entitled to reimbursement of costs incurred as a result of the implementation of his or her MP duties during that calendar month. Currently, this sum is around 30,000 hryvnyas (1,210 dollars).
To be paid a salary – from 35,000 to 43,000 hryvnyas, MPs must take part in 70% of votes.
The electronic voting system will clock up MPs' attendance.
