The World Health Organization (WHO) must play a crucial role in combating the COVID-19 pandemic, Chinese President Xi Jinping said at the Third Paris Peace Forum.
He said that China would continue providing help in treating coronavirus.
"We need to ensure that the WHO plays a crucial, leadership role in promoting joint global initiatives to combat Covid-19. China will continue to share with other players the experience of containing the virus and its diagnosis and therapy expertise, as well as provide assistance with the necessary medical means," the Chinese leader said.
He also stressed that China would do everything possible to make its national vaccines available to all countries.
"China is delivering on its commitment to turn Chinese vaccines into a global public good. China will help the world community, especially developing countries, to improve preparedness for healthcare emergencies," Xi Jinping said.
The Chinese leader also said that Beijing would work with the international community to stabilise global supply chains and build an open world economy.
"China will strongly promote the G20 initiative to end the debt service of the poorest countries and take an active part in international development cooperation," he said.
The Third Paris Peace Forum initiated by French President Emmanuel Macron began in Paris on 11 November. Since 2018 it has been a platform where heads of state and international organisations are working together with civil society and the private sector to create new forms of collective action.
