Hennadiy Matsehora, Mayor of Kupyansk, Kharkiv region, is suspected of treason. Yesterday he entered into negotiations with Russian troops and surrendered the city to them.
The Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office dealt swiftly with the actions of the Mayor according to the law, Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova said on Facebook.
"He was informed that he had been suspected of trespass against territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine by government officials and of treason. On the 27th of February, the Mayor offered the command of the Russian armed forces to provide support and material support to the occupiers of the city of Kupyansk. The Mayor provided the invaders with transport, housing, fuel, and food. Due to his actions, the territory of the Ukrainian Kupyansk got out of the administrative control of the state authorities of Ukraine," she wrote.
According to Venediktova, anyone who surrenders even a piece of Ukrainian land to the enemy will be punished.
As mentioned before, the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Head of the Police Department and Police Duty Officer of the city of Pivdennyy, Kharkiv region, also received suspicion of treason during today’s special military operation.
