Ukrainian refugees can be housed in the mansions of Russian oligarchs in London.

According to thetimes.co.uk, the Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Dominique Raab, supported such an idea.

Raab called for the confiscation of Russian property.

According to him, kleptocrats are now using the courts to stop journalists from revealing the sources of their wealth.

Raab noted that the government is working to make protecting oligarchs' wealth through expensive law firms impossible.

"We have seen oligarchs, kleptocrats, and those with ties to Putin come to this country and sue those who shed light on corruption under our defamation laws," the British official said.

According to the BBC, Britain previously imposed sanctions on a Russian businessman, billionaire Alisher Usmanov, who owns a house in Surrey worth 60m pounds, and former Russian Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov, who owns an apartment in London worth more than 11m pounds.

Both Shuvalov and Usmanov deny that they have earned their wealth illegally.

As you know, Great Britain imposed sanctions on the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RFDI) and its chairman Kirill Dmitriev due to Russia's military aggression against Ukraine.

The British government plans to introduce a law in parliament to stop money laundering and fraud due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. According to the government, the measure will strengthen law enforcement agencies to prosecute corrupt oligarchs and create a so-called Register of Foreign Organizations, in which foreigners who own real estate in the UK must be named.

In January, the British Foreign Office threatened Russian oligarchs with confiscation of property as part of a planned tightening of anti-Russian sanctions.
