US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that the issue of oil sanctions against Russia is not "off the table."
He voiced this opinion while speaking to journalists in Brussels, reports the BBC.
Asked whether the USA was considering imposing energy sanctions on Russia, Anthony Blinken said, "nothing is beyond discussion."
He added that the reduction in world energy supplies is not for the benefit of the USA, as it will lead to a price boom on oil.
Blinken stressed that the USA has "a strong interest in degrading of Russian energy" and reducing dependence on Russian energy in the long run.
Asked by reporters how long it would take, as Russian missiles are falling on Ukraine, Blinken said he was not going to "set a time frame."
It was earlier reported that on March 3, the USA announced the imposition of sanctions against Russian oligarchs to increase pressure on the Russian economy. They were applied to the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Peskov, Russian businessmen Yevgeny Prigozhine, Boris and Arkady Rotenberg, and Alisher Usmanov. The list includes Rostec сhairman Serhiy Chemezov, VEB.RF chairman Igor Shuvalov, and PJSC "Transneft" president Mykola Tokariev.
