The press service of Roskomnadzor has officially announced the blocking of the social network Facebook in the Russian Federation.
The reason for restricting access is called "discrimination against the Russian media."
"On 4 March 2022, a decision was made to block access to Facebook (owned by Meta Platforms, Inc.) in the Russian Federation. Since October 2020, 26 cases of discrimination against Russian media and information resources by Facebook have been recorded," the statement said.
Roskomnadzor said that in recent days the social network had restricted access to the following accounts: the propaganda TV channel "Zvezda", news agency "RIA Novosti", Sputnik, Russia Today, sites "Lenta.ru" and "Gazeta.ru". The Russians called such actions of Facebook "a restriction of the rights and freedoms of Russian citizens."
They also reported the slowdown and blocking of the social network Twitter and the hotel booking site booking.com.
As earlier reported, the social networks Twitter, WhatsApp and Facebook supported Ukraine in the fight against Russian aggression. Facebook has also banned the advertising of Russian state media and their monetization of the platform.
Roskomnadzor also demands that Telegram remove Internet resources, including bots, which provide information about Russian servicemen who died or were captured during a military attack on Ukraine. The Russian media also forbade calling the war with Ukraine a "war"; instead calling it a "special operation."
