NNEGC Energoatom reported that a powerful explosion has just taken place in Energodar, where the largest Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Europe is located.
"We are finding out the details," the company's press service said.
As reported, on the night of 4 March, the occupiers fired on ZNPP in Energodar. As of 06:20, the firefighters extinguished the fire in the training building of Zaporizhzhia NPP in Energodar.
The military forces of the Russian Federation seized the ZNPP site in Energodar. The State Inspectorate for Nuclear Regulation of Ukraine reported that operational personnel monitor the condition of power units and provide their operation following the requirements of technological regulations for safe operation.
Three Ukrainian defenders were killed, and two were injured. The station staff was not injured. The radiation background is normal.
Before that, on 1 March, Russian troops approached the Energodar checkpoint. The mayor of Energodar wrote in his Telegram channel that "for the third time Energodar is becoming a solid wall at the entrance to the city, blocking the entrance to the occupiers. As of now, the uninvited guests are once again strongly advised not to "approach the city".
Mykola Steinberg, the former chief engineer of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and former Deputy Minister of Fuel and Energy of Ukraine, addressed the world nuclear energy community. He stressed that the time for political correctness had passed and called for "crushing the scoundrel before it is too late."
