EU countries are going to impose sanctions on 100 people in connection with Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, Head of European diplomacy Josep Borrell said on Wednesday, according to Interfax.

"The EU member states are working on a new package of sanctions, which will apply to about 100 people representing different levels of government [of Russia], as well as economic sanctions," Borrel said in the European Parliament.

He expressed hope that a new package of sanctions will be adopted on Wednesday before the end of the session of the EU Parliament.

Earlier, Bloomberg reported that the EU intends to impose sanctions on 14 Russian citizens, including a number of wealthy individuals and their families. In addition, according to the agency, dozens of lawmakers may be under sanctions.

At the same time, Brussels intends to refuse to discuss sanctions measures against ports, Bloomberg noted, citing unnamed diplomats.

On 23 February, the European Union imposed sanctions on the Russian Federation, which recognized the self-proclaimed republics of Ukraine's Donbas. On February 26, the second day of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the EU imposed a second package of sanctions on Russia over its attack on Ukraine, including against Russian President Vladimir Putin, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, Deputy Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev, Special Representative of the President for Environmental Protection, Ecology and Transport Sergey Ivanov, Head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Volodymyr Kolokoltsev. And also on deputies of the Russian State Duma and some Belarusian high-ranking officials.
