Petro Poroshenko stressed to the British BBC that he is doing everything possible to support Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
"Today, Zelenskyy is our president. And I am doing my best to support the President of Ukraine to demonstrate unity to secure his mandate in the negotiations. I am categorically opposed to complicating his position because he must be strong, relying on Ukrainian unity. Be strong relying on Western support, Western jet fighters for our army, which should be supplied now," Poroshenko stressed.
Answering questions from host Lucy Hawkin about the need for Ukraine's neutral status, Poroshenko recalled that in 2014 Putin attacked Ukraine when it was a non-aligned state. He noted that this is not Putin's real goal.
"His goal is to occupy Ukraine. Putin's goal is to continue to wage war against the West. War against you. We must be brave enough not to succumb to his crazy blackmail," Petro Poroshenko emphasized.
"Please learn the lessons of 1938 very carefully. This date is crucial in British history. And remember the lessons of Prime Minister Churchill when he formed the government of national unity. The whole world then united and attacked Hitler to preserve peace. The situation is the same now," said the fifth president.
