More than 1,600 residents were evacuated from Izium under occupiers’ shelling - Synehubov

More than 1,600 Izium residents were evacuated on 10 March, the head of the Kharkiv regional state administration, Oleh Synehubov, said on his Telegram.

“The shellings continued during the evacuation of Izium residents. The Russian side did not honour their commitments for the operation of the “humanitarian corridor” and continued attacking the civilians. Despite this, 44 buses left and we were able to evacuate more than 1,600 people. We were also able to receive humanitarian aid from Kharkiv,” Synehubov wrote.

The head of the Kharkiv region stated that some citizens decided to stay in the safer areas of the Izium district. Others were transported to the neighboring area.

“Thank you to the local authorities, volunteers, territorial defense forces, caring residents, and drivers who risked their lives to organize and evacuate the people under shelling! The Russian occupier exerts psychological pressure on the civilian population with constant air attacks, but we will not give up! We will do everything possible to continue the evacuation soon,” Synehubov added.

On 9 March, the head of the Kharkiv regional state administration reported that Russia had disrupted the evacuation of residents. "Dozens of buses that left to collect the residents did not reach the city. Only six vehicles evacuated about 250 people," Sinegubov said.
