Ukraine won the case against Russia in the UN International Court of Justice: Russia is obliged to stop invasion immediately

The UN International Court of Justice in The Hague has decided to implement temporary measures on RF due to the war it started in Ukraine.

This was announced by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the State Service of Special Communication and Information Protection of Ukraine.

"Ukraine won the case against Russia in the UN International Court of Justice. The court ordered Russia to stop the invasion of Ukraine immediately. The order is binding on Russia by international law. Ignoring the decision pushes Russia into even greater isolation," wrote the president.

"Immediately cease military operations that began in Ukraine on February 24, 2022. Ensure that any military or regular armed units, as well as other organizations or individuals controlled by the Russian Federation, do not take steps to continue the military operation." - the message of the State Service of Special Communication and Information Protection of Ukraine says.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dmytro Kuleba, explained that the court's decision at the highest legal level stated the fact of Russia's invasion and determined that Russia's unjustified aggression should stop.

"13 judges supported the decision; only two were against (Russia and China). This is a powerful result that adds weight to the decision. The court's decision is legally binding under international law. The decision will be the starting point for other legal and political assessments of Russian aggression. Ukraine has won here and demands that Russia immediately follow the order and stop the aggression," he wrote on Facebook.

The International Court of Justice is the primary judicial body of the United Nations. It resolves disputes between states. The International Criminal Court has to bring to justice to people responsible for the war in Ukraine, Radio Svoboda reports.

Ukraine's lawsuit alleges that Russia violated the Genocide Convention during the war in Ukraine.

At the same time, lawyers note that international courts, including the United Nations , have no jurisdiction over Russia's aggression. The UN Security Council, where Russia has a veto, has jurisdiction over the war.
