The Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk joined the special session "Situation in Ukraine" organized by the geopolitical group 12+ within the 144th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Nusa Dua, Indonesia.

This was reported by the press center of the Verkhovna Rada.

During the event, the speaker appealed to members of the parliament from all over the world to act more decisively to deter Russian aggression.

Stefanchuk thanked the international community for its help, solidarity with Ukraine and support. At the same time, according to the speaker of the Ukrainian parliament, the fact that the war has been going on for four weeks shows that the measures taken are not enough.

"We urge you to mobilize the potential of members of your national parliaments to stop Russia, end deaths and destruction, and end the war crimes of the Russian occupiers against Ukrainian citizens, women and children," Stefanchuk said.

The Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada cited the example of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, which this week supported closing the sky over Ukraine.

"You can also call on your governments to create a no-fly zone over Ukraine. You must do it for the sake of millions of people in Ukraine, for the sake of European and world security, "Stefanchuk addressed the members of parliament.

The Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine expressed hope that the Inter-Parliamentary Union would voice its position against Russia's gross violation of the international law.

On March 17, Latvia became the third country to support closing the sky over Ukraine from the Russian aggressor and provide humanitarian corridors.

On March 14, the Parliament of the Republic of Estonia called on UN member states to close the sky over Ukraine to protect it from the Russian aggressor.

The call to close the sky over Ukraine was also supported by the Lithuanian Parliament.
